Smart checkout daytime updates

Context

CashAssist is an Android POS system by HS-Soft, used daily by over 2,000 bakeries, cafes, and restaurants. Previously, updates were installed only at night - a limitation that became difficult to manage as our clients spanned multiple time zones, with many operating 24/7

Goal

Design a daytime update process that adapts to what is happening at the checkout. It should never interrupt critical actions like payments, but still get updates installed on time.

Outcome

I defined how updates behave in every checkout state: they wait while a payment is in progress, show a countdown during normal work and prompt directly when the device is idle. I handed over the logic, flowcharts and UI for all states. The feature was not released, as the company soon stopped developing this product line.
